Love is for Adults only

During your teenage years, you often hear your parents or teachers say " Love is for adults only so you should noy get yourselves involved in relationships." Is love really only for adults or can a teenager be capable of handling love? We often wonder what love is and what it feels like. Is it like in the movies where the guy would sacrifice himself for his lady love? Or as heart-wrenching as the Titanic scene where Jack gave up his life so that Rose could survive in the icy waters, There is really no true definition of what love is. There is no fixed age that a person can experience love at but i partially agree that it is only for adults.

Some reasons why love should only be for adults are that adults are more mature and can think for themselves better, They know when things are going out of hand and know their limits. Adults are also more financially stable. They have the money to go dating or to buy little gifts for each other. They also have more time and there are not as many risks as that for a teenager.

When we are teenagers, we are more curious about love than at any other point of time in our lives. We often wonder, " when will I fall in love?" Many are so eager about it that they go into relationships at a young age. They often mistake love as just being in a relationship with another person and doing things like holding hands, kissing and hugging. The problem is at such a young age, we are usually not mature enough to understand what love really is. Many teenagers get their hearts broken because their partner is using them or cheating on them. Such painful experiences could leave a scar on that person and he or she would be discouraged from ever falling in love again. For some, it might result in a few sleepless nights, crying themselves to sleep, loss of appetite o rmaybe even depression. They would not be able to concentrate on what they are doing and be in something like a daze. Like as if they were in their own world. This could be disastrous if it were to affect your studies as you would not be able to absorb what your teachers are teaching. For those who really take the relationship too seriously, a break-up could mean a life and death situation. They might take drugs or smoke to forget their problems or even commit suicide. Teenagers also do not have the time and money to be in a relationship. They could have been studying but instead they were out with their partner or talking to them on the phone all night. Many have flunked in their studies because of this. There is also the risk of unwanted pregnancies. Teenagers being naive do not think of the consequences of their actions. The couple may get too intimate with each other and if they forget to use "protection", it will result in an unwanted pregnancy and the guy, not wanting to bear any responsibilities would dump the poor girl. In worse cases, the girl may even get cheated or be abused. What could be worse than that? Teenagers are definitely too young to handle this.

Although there are so many reasons why teenagers should leave experiencing love till they are adults, that does not mean that they cannot get into a relationship. Some teenagers are mature and responsible enough to know how to have responsible dating. They prioritize their time on their studies and only date when they have the time. Some even manage to balance both. Having a girlfriend or boyfriend can be a good thing too. You have someone to dote on you, care for you, encourage you, make you laugh, and go through thick and thin together with. Sometimes, having a girlfriend or boyfriend could benefit you instead. If you have an understanding and patient partner, he or she may even help you out in your studies or solve whatever problems you have. They bring you joy and take away your sorrows. As long as you put your studies as your first priority and practise safe dating and are able to handle both, then maybe love can be for teenagers as well as adults. It could be an experience so we know what to do when we become adults and are looking for love.

Everybody needs that special someone and different people find love at different times of their life. Even though love should only be sought after when we are adults, teenagers can also look for love just as long as they are mature and responsible enough.
